This pack contains 12 expandable downspout strainers made from lightweight, corrosion-resistant aluminum. Each strainer measures approximately 3 inches in diameter and 6 inches in height when uncompressed; the mesh body can be bent or squeezed to better match circular or slightly rectangular downspout shapes.
The alloy used is rustproof and intended for outdoor use, so the strainers resist rain and typical weather exposure. Their flexible weave allows water to pass through while catching leaves, pine needles, twigs and other debris that would otherwise enter the drain. If used for planting protection or other creative purposes, the mesh supports root growth while keeping out larger pests.
These strainers are designed to fit most standard downspout openings with diameters roughly between 2 and 4 inches. To install, compress or roll the mesh to the needed diameter, insert it into the downpipe and push it into place — no tools required. They can be trimmed or bent to fit odd shapes but note that the raw edges are sharp.
Because the edges may cut skin, wearing gloves during shaping and installation is recommended. The set is suitable for rooftops, yards, gardens, terraces and commercial properties where you want to reduce gutter maintenance, keep critters out of drain pipes, and limit clogs without frequent manual clearing.
Twelve pieces offer extras for multiple downspouts or future replacements. While the mesh stops most debris and discourages nesting, very fine sediment or heavy buildup may still require occasional cleaning or supplemental protection.

Great for protecting bulbs
I used these as little planting baskets for my mom’s bulbs to keep voles and moles from digging them up. The aluminum won’t corrode, the weave stops chewing but still lets roots grow. I used a couple of zip ties and bent the edges to close them up.
