Product review
This pack contains six one-pound pouches of bituminous pellet carbon, totaling 6 pounds of media. The pellets are the common 4 mm diameter size used in many aquarium and pond filters and are phosphate-free, making them safe for both freshwater and marine setups.
Each portion is pre-filled into a reusable mesh bag with a plastic zipper, so the media can be placed directly into canister baskets, sumps, skimmers or in-line filter chambers without scooping loose carbon. The mesh pouches hold a generous volume of pellets yet allow water to flow freely through the media bed.
The carbon is non-perishable and activated to work quickly at removing odors, staining, discoloration and other dissolved impurities. For best results, rinse each pouch thoroughly under running water until the rinse runs clear to remove surface dust. Note that each pouch is shipped inside an outer plastic bag for containment—open that outer bag first, then remove and rinse the mesh sachet before use.
Pros
- Convenient pre-portioned zippered mesh pouches
- Effective at clearing odors and discoloration
- Suitable for fresh and saltwater use
Cons
- Requires thorough rinsing to remove dust
- Sealed packs can emit a strong initial odor
- Pellet lifespan depends on tank load
VerdictA practical, ready-to-use supply of pellet activated carbon for hobby aquaria, small ponds and circulating water devices. The one-pound, zippered mesh sacks make handling cleaner and insertion into canister or sump filters simple. Performance is fast and noticeable for removing discoloration and odors; routine rinsing is required to eliminate loose dust.

Very convenient and ready to use
Comes in pre-filled zippered mesh pouches — just rinse off the dust and drop it into the filter. You could refill the pouch yourself, but the ready bags are so handy. Fits most canister setups without fuss.

Great for a circulating fountain
I used these in a flowing pet water fountain with the pump inside the mesh sack so water runs through the media. The pouches hold a lot and the mesh quality is solid. For a deep rinse, I emptied the pellets into a colander to wash away excess powder, then returned them to the pouch. The carbon activates immediately when wet and performed as expected.

Large quantity and well packed
Good bulk amount, solid pellet quality and secure packaging — everything arrived intact.

Cleared my pool water
A garden hose left my pool with a greenish tint; I placed several packets in the skimmer and the water cleared in a few days. The packs had a strong rotten-egg smell when opened, likely from sealed damp organic material, but they worked well.
