Product review
The Rapidfire Chimney Starter is a single-piece charcoal ignition tool supplied as the chimney unit itself. It’s designed to shorten the time between loading fuel and having a usable bed of coals for cooking.
Construction uses aluminized steel for corrosion resistance and durability. The unit measures roughly 7.5 inches across and about 13 inches tall, giving a compact footprint while still holding a useful load of briquettes or lump charcoal. Inside is a cone-shaped grate that concentrates heat and maintains airflow beneath the fuel so coals light evenly.
An ergonomic handle with a heat shield gives safer handling while pouring hot coals into a grill. To use, load the chimney with charcoal, place a fire starter or crumpled paper under the grate, ignite the starter, wait until the top coals show ash and glow, then tip the chimney to transfer the lit fuel to your grill. The design makes repeated starts quick and reduces the need for lighter fluids.
Pros
- Lights coals quickly and evenly
- Aluminized-steel construction resists corrosion
- Comfortable, heat-shielded handle for safe pouring
Cons
- Smaller capacity not ideal for very large cooks
- Thin metal can dent if dropped or packed tightly
- Requires a separate fire starter for quickest results
VerdictThis Weber Rapidfire Chimney Starter reliably gets coals glowing fast and evenly thanks to its cone-shaped grate and ample airflow. Built from aluminized steel with a comfortable handle and heat-shielded grip, it’s compact enough for smaller grills and trips yet robust for frequent use. Its smaller capacity means it isn’t suited for very large cooks, and the thin metal can dent if handled roughly,

Does what it needs but limited capacity
Works well for small jobs. You’ll still need a fire starter to get it going. It’s compact, so it won’t hold enough charcoal for a full long smoke.

A great way to start coals without using lighter fluid. Simple to light and dump hot coals into the grill. I’d happily give these as gifts to family members who grill.

A must-have for small grills
I wish I’d bought this sooner. It’s the compact model and fits my 18" kettle perfectly. If you’re feeding more than a couple people, consider a larger size, but for small cooks it does the job. It felt a bit flimsy at first but has held up and gets briquettes hot in minutes — very easy and less frustrating than old methods.

Makes lighting easier for small kits
This unit simplified my routine. Ideal for a small barbecue kit; if you own a larger grill, opt for a bigger starter to match the fuel needs.

Handy for kettles and trips
Perfect for a small 37 cm kettle or a Go-Anywhere grill — it fits when packed. The metal is thin and can dent easily, but it performs its job well. Great for camping or fishing trips.

Essential if you own a Weber
I bought this with a Weber Smokey Joe and I’m very pleased. It reduces ignition time and ensures even lighting, acting as a handy gauge for the right fuel amount on smaller Weber models. It also helps protect your grill over time by avoiding direct ignition on the grate, which can warp or chip enamel.

Simple, safe, no-fuss ignition
Gone are the messy, flare-up-prone lighter-fluid sessions. This chimney eliminates the fuss of building piles and hoping they light. It produces a steady, even bed of coals with much less risk and frustration.

Smaller chimney fits limited fuel needs
I control long-smoke temperatures by limiting fuel. My full-size chimney was too big; I often used only a third of it. This compact starter matches the smaller briquette counts I need (around 15–20) and reliably lights them for use with the Minion method.
