Product review

Heavily beeswax-coated surfaces: Each wooden component receives a substantial beeswax finish to improve weather resistance and create a familiar scent for incoming colonies.

Cedar construction: The hive bodies and most wooden parts are crafted from cedar, chosen for its durability and resistance to decay, providing a stable long-term home for bees.

Ready-to-assemble joinery: Boxes are manufactured with pre-cut dovetail joints and holes already drilled, so the main assembly steps are straightforward and fast with common tools.

Langstroth dimensions: The kit follows Langstroth standards, supplying one deep brood box and one medium super to create proper brood and honey space within a 10-frame footprint.

Complete kit contents: The package includes a metal outer top cover, inner cover, queen excluder, solid bottom board, entrance reducer, one medium box, one deep box, twenty frames fitted with beeswax-coated foundations, and a selection of screws and nails to complete setup.

  • Thick beeswax finish improves weather resistance
  • Cedar bodies provide solid, long-lasting construction
  • Complete kit includes brood box, super, and 20 waxed frames

Cons

Reviews

  1. Chad 5/5

    Good value overall

Simple, functional hive that delivers what it promises. For the cost-conscious beekeeper it’s a practical pick.

  2. Philicheeze 5/5

    Worth the investment

Boxes were easy to assemble and well waxed. Construction feels durable and suitable for regular use.

  3. Michael Hutter 3/5

Hive is fine but some parts arrived damaged

Packaging looked beaten on arrival and a few small pieces were damaged: the metal lid was bent and the entrance reducer was broken. I’ve contacted the seller for replacement. The wooden components look excellent and I’m pleased with the overall craftsmanship; I’ll update my rating once the broken parts are resolved.

  4. John Janet 5/5

    Cedar construction and clear instructions

Good quality cedar and straightforward assembly with the supplied directions. I used a little wood glue in addition to the wax finish for extra long-term hold; pieces went together cleanly.

  5. AnonymousAlaskanFarmer 4/5

    Budget-friendly with some rough spots

The boxes are thoroughly waxed but some foundations had only a light coating. A few frame joints splintered when nailed, though still usable. Nails arrived greasy but in good quantity. Functional and economical, I would buy again if needed.

Exceeded my expectations for a transfer project

Materials and machining are impressive — sturdy, secure and easy to put together. I’m preparing to relocate a wild colony from an attic and needed a hive likely to be accepted; this gives me confidence the bees will adopt it. Setup looks ideal for a full colony transfer and has raised my hopes for success.

  7. shawn sullivan 5/5

    Excellent starter hive for teaching

I purchased this for use in my bee classes and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. Bottom board is solid wood, inner cover is quality plywood, and the frames are clear pine with proper grooves and bevels. To avoid any splitting I used deck screws that cut in cleanly, or you can pilot-drill before using the supplied screws.

  8. Gem 5/5

Well-made cedar hive; bees settled in fast

Solid build and a quick assembly — everything snapped together in minutes using the dovetail joints. All wooden parts are wax-coated so the hive smells inviting to colonies. The metal top is sturdy and the fit and finish were good. The kit includes a smaller top box and larger brood box plus a queen excluder to restrict brood to the lower chamber. My bees moved in right away; I’ll add more of these to my apiary.

  9. JUAN NOTHOLT 5/5

    Extremely well-crafted boxes

These hives are built to a high degree of precision and use excellent materials. They assemble smoothly and feel very solid. Highly recommended.
