Product review

Construction and materials: This single map sleeve is made from a two-fold, double-polished clear vinyl that provides high transparency and a firm feel. The exterior backing is reinforced nylon for added tear resistance, and the seams are built to handle regular use without splitting.

What’s included: The package contains one clear vinyl map case with integrated hook-and-loop closure. There are no additional accessories — the unit itself provides the viewing window and closure system needed to store and reference maps.

Fit and carrying: The overall dimensions are intended to accommodate a 7" by 9" visible area, and the size is tailored to slide neatly into BDU-style uniform pockets or similar compartments. To use it, fold or trim your map to the appropriate section, insert it into the clear sleeve, and press the closure shut for quick access.

Seal and protection: A reliable hook-and-loop fastener secures the opening and helps keep dirt and light moisture out. While it shields maps from splashes and everyday grime, it is not guaranteed to be fully submersible or impervious during prolonged heavy downpours.

Durability in the field: The vinyl and nylon combination produces a durable item that stands up to rough handling, frequent bending, and typical outdoor wear. The clear window keeps map details readable while the nylon backing resists abrasion from gear and packs.

Viewing area and use: The 7"x9" clear window provides enough space for a folded section of topographic or route maps and allows easy reference of grid lines and landmarks. Users typically fold maps to show their operational area before slipping them into the sleeve for quick navigation.

Pros

  • Clear, durable vinyl with nylon reinforcement
  • Designed to fit BDU pockets and similar pouches
  • Large 7"x9" viewing window for easy map reading

Cons

  • Hook-and-loop closure is not fully waterproof
  • Smaller than some full-size folded maps
  • May require folding or trimming maps to fit

VerdictA rugged-feeling map sleeve that tucks into uniform pockets and offers a roomy 7"x9" display. It’s well made from folded polished vinyl with nylon reinforcement and a Velcro-style seal; reliable for day hikes and land navigation but not fully waterproof for heavy exposure.

Reviews

  1. RJ Anderson 5/5

    Does the job

I slipped my new maps inside and it protected them fine. Reminds me of gear from my service days. Fits a grease pencil alongside the map.

  2. BearKnife 4/5

    Well made but petite

Solid construction and color, but it’s noticeably small. Struggle to insert a full-size map without extra folding.

  3. dp 5/5

    Works for land navigation

Handy for Land Nav. The marker wipes off the protective sheet easily.

  4. Rocque 2/5

Too small for some standard maps

The insert that fits is roughly 8.5 x 7.5 inches; many standard folded maps won’t fit without extra trimming or creative folding. Printed A4 or 8.5x11 maps won’t fit without modification.

  5. Jesse James 5/5

    Practical size for short-area maps

Well-made pouch that folds small and fits into a drop pouch easily. Too compact for a full road map — meant for a localized map section. You may need to refold maps. Velcro seal is fine but not fully waterproof.

  6. J Naz 5/5

    High quality, meets my needs

Haven’t soaked it in extreme use yet, but materials and stitching look dependable. Holds multiple folded topo sections and writing tools without bulking my pack.

  7. docspizzel 5/5

    Good for uniform pocket carry

Bought it for a course and it fit in my pant pocket as advertised. Not waterproof, but it handled light rain. Fold maps to show the area you need.

  8. Andrew 5/5

    Compact and sturdy

Small but robust. Fits in my pack and provides enough grid detail for navigation. Good value for a simple sleeve.

  9. Miles McCoy 5/5

    Exactly as described

Used it for an overnight hike and it worked. Expect to fold maps to align with the plastic window — map sizes vary.

  10. Marcel Blanchettered 4/5

    Would prefer larger

Useful for snowmobile outings but would be nicer if it had more room for larger map sections.

  11. Pedro Serrador 2/5

    Not for heavy rain use

Fine for dry hikes, but on a rainy canoe trip my map soaked through. Not suited for prolonged exposure to heavy rain or immersion.

  12. Megan 5/5

    Solid construction

Good workmanship and made in the USA.
