What’s included
- One pair of Unigear leg gaiters (left and right)

Materials and construction
- Upper panel: TASLON fabric designed for lightweight comfort and breathability. TASLON allows moisture vapor to escape; the material is rated for high moisture permeability (manufacturer lists >8000 g/m²/24h), helping keep lower legs drier during activity.
- Lower panel: heavy-duty 1000D nylon on the lower leg and ankle area to improve abrasion resistance and tear strength where the gaiters contact boots, rocks and brush. The 1000D section is treated for improved water resistance.
- Waterproof treatment: a TPU water-repellent coating is applied to the outer face; the gaiters are reported to perform above 8000 mm hydrostatic head in lab testing for surface water resistance. (For comparison, the raw 1000D nylon section has a lower intrinsic rating.)
- Hardware and reinforcement: a wide front closure (approximately 5 cm) uses heavy-duty hook-and-loop to secure the gaiter; there is an adjustable top strap with buckle to prevent slipping; the instep strap is a thickened TPU-style band designed to resist cold and cracking; a lace hook at the front helps anchor the gaiter to footwear.

Design and fit
- Ergonomic cut follows the ankle curve to sit snugly around boots and lower calves. Reinforced inner panels extend where contact and abrasion are most likely.
- Fastening system combines a wide front hook-and-loop closure, a lace hook, an adjustable top buckle and a durable underfoot strap to keep debris and moisture from entering your footwear.
- Sizing: available in multiple sizes (S/M/L/XL). The maker recommends measuring just below the knee and checking calf circumference against the size chart before selecting a size. Those with bulkier insulating layers or wide calves may need to size up.

How to use
- Slip the gaiter over your boot and lower leg, engage the lace hook at the front, close the wide front hook-and-loop panel, adjust and clip the top buckle, then run the instep strap under the boot and tighten. The gaiters are intended for hiking, mountaineering, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hunting and other activities where protection from snow, mud, sand and insects is needed.

Care notes
- Clean off heavy mud and let dry before storage. Reapply durable water repellent (DWR) treatments as needed to restore surface shedding. Replace the instep strap if it shows excessive wear.

Pros

  • Robust 1000D nylon lower for abrasion resistance
  • TASLON upper offers breathability and vapor transmission
  • Multiple fastening points secure gaiter to boot

Cons

  • Fit can be tight for larger calves—measure carefully
  • Instep strap material may feel rigid in cold
  • Front hook-and-loop may be slow to close compared with zippers

VerdictThese gaiters deliver solid protection from snow, mud, brush and insects while remaining rugged enough for heavy use. The TASLON upper provides good breathability and moisture transmission, while the 1000D nylon lower section stands up to abrasion and tearing. TPU treatment gives strong water repellency (manufacturer-tested >8000 mm hydrostatic head), and closures — a wide front hook-and-loop, lac

Good for warm‑weather fieldwork, but not perfect

I needed gaiters that breathe in hot, rainy conditions and still keep elements off shoes. In 94°F and rain these protected my footwear and stayed manageable, but moisture and grime clung to them more than I’d like. I once made gators from ripstop tent fabric that outperformed these in breathability and soil-shedding; Unigear is well made, but not as slick as that ripstop material.

    Ideal for wet, muddy treks

Very good quality, fully waterproof and extremely tough.

    Keeps snow out as promised

Bought them to stop snow getting into my boots while walking the dog. They do that brilliantly. Easy to don, minimal tweaking required, and they kept snow off my lower legs. Sturdy material and thick construction — not fashionable, but very practical in foul weather.

Essential leg protection for thorny trails and ticks

These exceeded expectations and are now my go‑to hiking gear. They shield my lower legs from thorny brush and have survived rough woodland use. Because I live in a high‑tick area I tuck my socks and treat the gaiters with permethrin — the fabric holds the treatment well and I feel much safer. The inner reinforcement at the ankle gives added durability while still allowing good mobility; they contour nicely around the boot and ankle.

    High quality and weatherproof

Worked perfectly during stormy, rainy weather. Kept me warm and dry, and were comfortable to wear and simple to use.

Solid and dependable — bought a second pair

Easy to fit, durable and user friendly. I routinely walk through deep snow and these do the job. They’re so useful I purchased another pair to keep on a different pair of shoes. The instep strap can be routed above or below microspikes, so they work fine even when I add traction devices.

Poor fit for my calves — had to return

Construction and materials seemed excellent, but I couldn’t close the front hook-and-loop because the gaiter was too narrow around the calf. The sizing advice to measure just below the knee didn’t account for fuller calves. I’m a small/average older woman and the small was far too tight. Recommend ordering at least one size larger if you have thicker calves.

Great for snow and mud on hikes

Used them on a 5 km hike in deep snow and they kept snow out of my laces and boot tops the whole time. The underfoot strap and lace hook stop them from riding up. Easy to put on and they’d be useful on muddy days too. Highly recommend — made for snowy conditions.

Very solid construction, minor strap concerns

Well built and as shown in photos. I worry the underfoot strap is a rigid plastic‑like material and doesn’t stretch, but there’s a spare lace hook to secure it to the shoe if the strap ever fails. Strong closure and quality material overall.

    Works well for snowy walks

Performs very well on snow hikes. Doesn’t get in the way and covers legs and shoes adequately. Recommended!

Great for winter trips — glad I sized down

Picked these up for a winter visit to a snowy park and they performed well; we’ve added them to our winter kit. After reading feedback I ordered a smaller size and that worked for my setup (boot, base layer, sock and waterproof pants). If you wear heavy insulation or bulky boots, sizing down may not be right. They offer good coverage without excessive bulk.

Held up in boggy Highlands terrain

Took these on a trek in the Scottish Highlands and they proved surprisingly reliable despite my initial doubts about the hook-and-loop closure. They took a lot of water and contact with vegetation and rocks without failing. There’s a small cross zipper at the foot as a backup, though I didn’t need it. The foot loop tucks away well and the fit is comfortable—very water‑resistant in practice.
