High-output heating: This 60-foot de-icing cable delivers 8 watts per foot to quickly melt snow and ice and help prevent ice dams that can cause leaks or structural damage. Its continuous heating along the length makes it suitable for roof edges, gutters, downspouts and exposed plumbing runs.
Self-regulating performance: The cable uses PTC (positive temperature coefficient) self-regulating technology so the element increases heat where it is coldest and cuts back where temperatures rise. That behavior reduces the risk of overheating and eliminates the need for a separate thermostat for routine ice-dam protection.
Plug-and-play construction: The kit is supplied as a pre-assembled 120V unit with an LED power indicator built into the plug so you can confirm power at a glance. The outer jacket is UV-resistant and waterproof, enabling outdoor use on shingles, metal and asphalt roofs as well as PVC downspouts and gutters.
Four-layer protection: Internally the cable features a multi-layer arrangement — a waterproof outer jacket, insulation, a shielding layer and the internal PTC heating core — engineered to resist moisture intrusion, abrasion and excessive temperature rise for safe winter operation.
Easy DIY setup: The flexible cable can be routed along rooflines, through valleys, inside gutters and around pipes. The package includes 20 mounting clips and 20 spacers so you can secure the heater in place without specialized tools; the flexible design accommodates most common roof and gutter profiles.
Pros
- Strong 8W/ft output melts ice quickly
- Self-regulating PTC reduces overheating and saves energy
- Pre-assembled 120V plug with LED for simple installation
Cons
- May struggle in extreme cold without supplemental controls
- Occasional reports of uneven heating along the run
- Requires careful routing and attachment for optimum performance
VerdictThis 60ft self-regulating heat cable supplies strong per-foot output to tackle snow and ice buildup across roof edges, gutters and downspouts. The PTC-based cable boosts heat in cold spots and scales back in warmer areas, so overheating is minimized without extra controls. Its rugged, UV- and water-resistant outer jacket and four-layer build make it suitable for shingles, metal roofs, asphalt and

Cleared a large ice dam
Placed across a big ice build-up and it helped break the mass apart. Very pleased with the result.

Adapted for van floor heat — works well
I used this as underfloor heat in my skoolie instead of in gutters and it performs nicely. I added a thermostat to get finer control; it keeps the floor warm unless temps fall below about -6°C (20°F). Power draw is modest and the install was straightforward. Overall I'm satisfied with its reliability in my conversion.

Failed to warm on icy steps
I set this on my frozen front steps overnight; the plug LED showed power but the cable never felt warm and the ice remained. Tried another outlet with the same result. After several hours it had done nothing to melt or prevent icing. Disappointed and would not recommend based on this experience.

Did the job preventing an ice dam
Installed over a trouble spot in a gutter and it stopped an ice dam from forming. Worked effectively and pairing it with a remote control made it convenient to run only when necessary.
