What’s included: a galvanized steel hopper with a weatherproof lid, a feeding tray that holds dispensed grain, two aluminum arm assemblies with a step plate, and the basic fasteners and instructions for assembly.
Materials and size: the main body and lid are galvanized steel to resist rust and weather. The feeder holds approximately 25 pounds of standard poultry feed and, with an average flock of 6–12 hens, will typically provide about ten days of feed between refills. The arms and step plate are aluminum, designed to move under the birds’ weight.
How it works: fill the top hopper with feed and close the lid. When a chicken steps on the plate, its weight lowers the plate and lifts the lid slightly so feed is exposed in the tray for pecking. When the bird leaves, the lid falls back to protect the remaining feed from pests and moisture.
Installation and use: assembly requires attaching the step plate to the aluminum arms and sliding those arms into receivers on the feeder body, then securing with the provided hardware. Place the feeder on a level surface or hang it per the instructions. Routine checks include refilling the hopper, cleaning the tray, and verifying moving parts operate freely.
Care and maintenance: galvanized steel wipes clean and resists rust, but the moving hardware benefits from occasional lubrication. Tighten fasteners after a few days of use to prevent loosening. If mice or insects are an issue, keep the lid closed and ensure the plate mechanism returns fully to the closed position between feedings.
Pros
- Durable galvanized steel construction
- Large 25 lb capacity reduces refill frequency
- Step-activated design deters rodents and weather
Cons
- Assembly alignment can require adjustments
- Lid may be light and need added weight to seal reliably
- Moving parts can loosen or need lubrication
VerdictA rugged, high-capacity feeder that reduces waste and keeps rodents at bay for many flocks. Assembly and some small fit issues were reported, and the lid and moving parts may need minor tweaks for smooth operation. Well suited for keepers who want durable, low-refill feeding, but expect to address a couple of setup annoyances.

Keeps mice out
Solid feeder that solved my mouse problem. No more rodents getting into the feed. It performs as advertised.

Doing its job against rodents
So far it’s kept rodents away. It can be a bit noisy when the lid moves, but overall it’s effective. I’m three weeks in and it’s functioning well.

Saved feed and deterred nighttime pests
Before this I was going through feed rapidly with an open tub. After installing the feeder my weekly usage dropped dramatically. The hens learned in a few days and predators or rodents no longer cleaned up the leftovers overnight.

Good concept, some QC hiccups on assembly
I switched to this unit after a decade with another brand that finally rusted out. Functionally it’s the same stepped-plate design that keeps rodents out and the birds learn it fast. It was cheaper than my old unit, but the step plate arms didn’t line up perfectly with the receiver hole and needed fiddling—quality control issue, not a design flaw.

Well made but my flock wouldn’t try it
Construction was sturdy and the instructions were clear, but my birds were hesitant to step on the platform despite following the guidance and adding treats. It kept feed dry and should help with mice or bugs, so it’s worth trying if those are your problems.

Simple to operate and built solid
This metal feeder feels much tougher than plastic models. It holds a lot of feed so I refill less often, and the tray design helps keep waste down. My hens adapted quickly and can feed side-by-side comfortably. Overall very satisfied and would use it again.

Required a few owner fixes to work smoothly
The hens figured it out quickly, but we had to make modifications. The lid was too light so we added weight, nuts on the arms kept backing out until we used thread locker, and moving parts needed grease to close reliably. Even with side guards they still fling some feed around. For what it costs, I expected fewer tweaks out of the box.
