Product review
Nakamichi traces back to 1948 and has long been associated with precision audio products. The GrubLock Excel Series banana plugs continue that heritage as a compact accessory for connecting speakers to amplifiers, receivers, subwoofers and other components that accept banana-style binding posts.
Each package contains four individual banana plugs (two pairs) plus an extra set of replacement set screws, all packed in a small plastic pouch with separated compartments for positive (red) and negative (black) connectors. The plugs accept 10 AWG through 18 AWG speaker wire.
Construction features a full copper core from base to tip for improved conductivity and sonic consistency. The contact surfaces are finished with direct 24k gold plating that resists tarnishing without relying on an intermediate nickel layer. Insulating sleeves are color coded to make polarity identification quick and obvious during installation.
Mechanical retention uses a dual two-set-screw scheme. You can tighten both screws to clamp bare conductor strands for maximum electrical contact, or use one screw to bite the cable jacket for added mechanical strain relief. They’re designed for tight engagement with standard binding-post receivers and speaker terminals.
The set carries a three-year manufacturer warranty and is intended for home and mobile audio installs where space is limited and a clean, repeatable termination is preferred over loose bare wire.
Pros
- Solid copper core with 24k gold plating resists corrosion
- Color-coded sleeves simplify polarity identification
- Dual set-screws offer strong electrical contact or strain relief
Cons
- Compact housing can be fiddly when tightening tiny screws
- No underlying nickel layer means a matte gold finish some may find subdued
- Short length may not suit deeper or recessed binding posts
VerdictA tidy, durable solution for turning bare speaker cable into reliable banana terminations. The GrubLock Excel plugs combine a copper core with direct 24k gold plating to resist corrosion and preserve signal clarity. Color-coded insulating sleeves simplify polarity, and dual set-screws give options for clamping bare conductors or using the jacket for strain relief. They’re compact, well machined an

A refined connection upgrade
Exactly what I expected — a neat, elevated way to hook up speakers. Note that you’ll need a very small flathead screwdriver (similar to those for eyeglasses) to secure the set screws. Otherwise, they perform very well.

Well-made and dependable
Solidly constructed with spare screws included. They seat snugly in speaker terminals and do the job they’re meant to do.

Repeat purchase for consistent design
I’ve reordered these because the design is dependable. The nonconductive outer shell prevents accidental shorts, the grip area is easy to handle, and the multi-screw clamp gives a secure connection. Always power down gear before connecting speakers.

Robust fit and solid contact
Very well constructed and durable. They grip tightly on my 12 AWG speaker cable and expand inside the amp terminal for a dependable multi-surface connection.

Practical but could use minor improvements
They work fine for my setup, though I’d prefer a slightly longer pin and a third screw for added strain relief. The housing is thin so small screws can be tricky to seat flush — good light and steady hands help. Once you determine the right strip length, multi-speaker installs go quickly.

Handy kit with thoughtful packaging
I used an 8-piece set (4 positive, 4 negative) to terminate my Elac speakers to a Marantz amp. I split a 2x4mm² speaker cable into two runs and fitted these 24k gold-plated plugs. The kit arrived in a plastic pouch divided into three smaller pouches—red positives, black negatives—and included an extra tightening screw plus a short instruction sheet for proper termination.
