Overview
The Ergodyne ProFlex 1600 is a 9-inch (22.9 cm) all-elastic back support designed to provide firm truncal and lumbar stabilization during lifting and repetitive bending tasks. Its high-cut front panel is contoured to reduce pressure across the abdomen while preserving range of motion for sitting, bending, and climbing.
What’s included
Each unit ships with the elastic support belt and a pair of adjustable, detachable suspenders that attach to the belt via hook-and-loop fasteners. The closure system on the front uses a wide hook-and-loop (Velcro-style) panel for a secure fit that can be worn over or under clothing.
Materials and construction
The support’s body is an all-elastic fabric that compresses the abdomen and lower back. Non-conductive polypropylene stays are built into the back for vertical rigidity and long-lasting shape. Rubber track webbing on the interior helps prevent the belt from riding up during movement. Stitching and finishes are reinforced for frequent, on-the-job use.
Sizing and how to put it on
Measure around the torso at the level of your belly button with a flexible tape. The belt should sit snugly around the hips with the front panel approximately two finger-widths below the navel. Fasten the hook-and-loop closure and pull the tension straps to the desired support level; tighten for lifts and loosen during rest. Adjust the suspenders so they sit comfortably on the shoulders without pulling. To use the product strictly as a lumbar belt, detach the suspenders by releasing their fasteners.
How it helps
When tightened correctly, the ProFlex increases intra-abdominal pressure, which can shift load away from the spine and encourage a more upright posture during lifts. That added support can make it easier to follow proper lifting mechanics and reduce strain during repetitive handling tasks. Typical applications include material handling, construction, landscaping, warehouse work, airport baggage handling, assembly, and general maintenance.
Limitations and care
While studies and long-term industry use support the value of truncal supports for reducing hazardous ranges of motion, no belt can eliminate all risk of injury. Users should continue safe lifting training and employer safety practices. Expect a break-in period: some units may have an initial factory odor that dissipates after airing. Over time the elastic can relax slightly; readjust tension as needed. For best results, wash and care per the manufacturer’s instructions and inspect stays and webbing for wear.
Pros
- Firm 9" lumbar compression
- Detachable, adjustable suspenders
- Durable polypropylene stays and anti-slip webbing
Cons
- Suspenders attach with Velcro and can lose tension
- Possible strong initial odor out of the package
- Elastic may relax slightly during first weeks
VerdictThis ProFlex model delivers firm 9-inch lumbar compression and a high-cut front that keeps mobility while supporting heavy lifting. Durable polypropylene stays and rubber track webbing help the belt stay put. Detachable suspenders add versatility but their Velcro connections can slip for some users; a noticeable factory odor can require airing out. Overall, it’s a solid choice for repeated lifting

Excellent, stretches a bit initially
Very good support but it loosens slightly after the first few weeks. I’m a size 34 and it fit well though a bit tight at first; it settles into place.

Essential for OTR mechanics
Lives up to its support claims and the straps adjust easily with Velcro to fit different body shapes. It helps a lot when lifting heavy OTR brake drums and swapping truck tires — highly recommended.

Great support; strong initial smell
My husband, who has a prior back fracture, gets noticeable relief and less strain at work. The brace fits comfortably and stitching is solid. The only issue was a strong odor at first that cleared after airing it out.

Well-made for yard work
This brace works very well and is well constructed. I’d suggest it for gardening, raking, or any activity where you need extra lumbar support.

Very supportive for heavy lifts
In autoglass work lifting 70–100 lb truck glass up ladders, this outperforms other braces I’ve owned over 22+ years. The taller back panel helps and the front straps don’t roll. I recommend it.

Bothered by strap attachment
I’m unhappy the shoulder straps fasten to the waistband with Velcro; that setup isn’t ideal. Aside from that, the construction is good.

Good fit for 5'4", 33" waist, 40" hips — Large
Very comfortable and easy to sit in. I measured and picked large; it fits perfectly despite looking huge at first. I removed the straps for summer but kept them for colder months. Excellent quality.

Surprised by how well it worked
I had back pain after replacing flooring. Wearing this brace during the next project kept me from suffering afterward. Now I use it for heavy lifting and long garage jobs with minimal discomfort.

Work belt — highly recommended
Material feels high quality and the elastic is sturdy. The Velcro grip holds the belt in place and I’d buy it again.

Protects my back — solid choice
After a slipped vertebra and past crushing injury, this brace has helped me move with more confidence. Suspenders can slip since they fasten with Velcro, but the belt itself is effective. I already told family and helpers about it.
